Arrangements are in place for bypoll: T V Anupama

There will be 181 polling booths, including 17 auxiliary booths, and two voting machines in each booth.

ALAPPUZHA: All arrangements are in place to hold a free and fair election in Chengannur on Monday, according to district collector and electoral officer T.V. Anupama.  She told reporters here that voting machines would be distributed from Chengannur Christian College on Sunday morning.   Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot System (ETPBS) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT)  machines will be used in the constituency. 

Green protocol will be observed strictly and volunteers will be deployed to implement it.  Special tents will be set up for voters at all booths considering the rain. Resting places for differently-abled people will also be provided. There will be 181 polling booths, including 17 auxiliary booths, and two voting machines in each booth.  The machines will display the names of 18 candidates and NOTA.

Mr S. Surendran, district police chief, said that security had been beefed up and at least 750 police personnel will be deployed across the constituency. Separate security arrangements will be made on polling and counting days.  There will be special security in 22 sensitive booths and CCTV cameras will be installed there.  Apart from police personnel, the services of central and striking forces and mobile patrolling units will be provided, he said.
