Telangana: 11 people dead as four vehicles collide in Gajwel accident

Among the dead were eight persons returning home from a pilgrimage in an SUV, and three others travelling in an RTC bus.

Hyderabad: Eleven persons were killed in a major accident that was triggered by an RTC bus attempting to overtake a lorry on the wrong side on the Rajiv Rahadari in Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s constituency Gajwel. 

Among the dead were eight persons returning home from a pilgrimage in an SUV, and three others travelling in an RTC bus. Another 10 bus passengers were injured.

The accident occurred when the RTC bus driver, in an attempt to overtake a truck from left side, hit the vehicle. The truck went out of control, jumped over the median and landed on the opposite lane. The truck then hit a container truck coming in the opposite direction and then crushed the SUV.

Siddipet police said bus driver Dammala Mallaiah, 48, was booked under IPC Section 304(II).
