Army Chief Gen. Manoj Pande Visits Manipur To Assess Rising Violence

New Delhi: Army Chief Gen. Manoj Pande on Saturday arrived in Manipur to review the law and order situation as the state reported rising incidents of sporadic violence over the last few days. Gen. Pande, accompanied by GoC-in-C Eastern Command Lt. Gen. Rana Pratap Kalita, landed at the Bir Tikendrajit Imphal International Airport in the afternoon for his two-day visit to the state.

Gen. Pande will meet on Sunday with the governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey, chief minister N. Biren Singh and chief security advisor of Manipur Kuldiep Singh to discuss the current situation.

“The Chief of Army Staff Manoj Pande will visit various locations where he will interact with the local formation commanders and obtain a first-hand account of the situation on the ground,” said the Indian Army in a statement.

The ethnic clashes claimed over 70 lives and left scores of people injured.
