Kerala nursing student attempted suicide, not ragged, says probe panel
The 19-year-old student had alleged that some of her seniors made her drink phenyl.
Thiruvananthapuram: A two-member inquiry committee constituted by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) to look into the alleged ragging of a dalit Kerala student at Al Qamar College of Nursing in Kalaburagi, has concluded that the victim had tried to commit suicide and was not ragged.
The 19-year-old student, KP Ashwathi, from Kerala had alleged that some of her seniors made her drink toilet cleaning liquid, which resulted in serious internal injuries.
But the inquiry committed has stated that the girl tried to commit suicide because of some family issues.
RGUHS Vice-Chancellor Dr KS Ravindranath said that the committee visited the college and hostel and inquired with all those concerned.
“The committee has submitted its report to the university. According to the report, no ragging incident occurred either at the college or the hostel, as alleged by the student,” he said.
“The committee has pointed out that the girl was admitted to a local hospital first and was later shifted to her hometown in Kerala,” he said.
