Central University of Kerala student suspended for fictional Facebook post
CUK alleges that the post symbolically targetted the authorities.
KOZHIKODE: Authorities of Central University of Kerala (CUK) suspended a student on Tuesday for his fictional face book post, alleging that the student symbolically targeted the CUK authorities through his derogatory post.
The suspension order issued by CUK says that the student Akhil Thazhath in his face book post on June 22 in reacting on the dismissal of students for serous misconduct from University hostel, used abusive language and filthy words against the Vice chancellor, registrar and hostel warden in a public domain, which is prima facie a serious misconduct unbecoming of a student of the university.
“Therefore in contemplation of disciplinary proceedings you are here by suspended from the rolls of the university with immediate effect pending inquiry”, the order said. The order also suspends Akhil from the hostel till further orders. However Akhil Thazhath told DC that the suspension came as a bolt from the blue for him. It was a fictional post, which was part of a story he was writing.
“The authorities assumed that the post was on them and took action”, he said. It is to be recalled that CUK had suspended many students recently from the Varsity hostel alleging misconduct. The suspension of the Akhil was last of the series. Issued on Monday Akhil has received the order on Tuesday. Future course of action is yet to be decided, Akhil said.
