Sand quarry office to shift to Chennai
This has been stated in a communiqué from the CM's special cell to M. Sekaran, president of the Federation of Consumer and Service organisations.
Tiruchy: The Tamil Nadu Government has decided to shift the office of the Project Director, Sand Quarrying Operations, from Tiruchy to Chennai, in order to establish command and control across all sand quarrying operations in the state and to facilitate inter-departmental coordination with various heads of departments.
This has been stated in a communiqué from the Chief Minister's special cell to M. Sekaran, president of the Federation of Consumer and Service organisations.
It was in reply to his representation to the Government to oversee the functioning of the office of the 'Project Director, Sand Quarrying Operations' presently located here, considering their operations were restricted mainly to Tiruchy and neighbouring districts.
The communiqué further said that due to the sensitivity involved in the task of operating sand quarries, it was necessary to attend to meetings with higher officials at regular intervals at Chennai and also to respond to legal issues on a daily basis, which requires continuous briefing by the Advocate General on a weekly basis at Chennai.
Hence, the Government has decided to shift the office to the state capital, the communiqué added.
