Khammam: Students of state schools have to wait 1 month for uniforms
Material for the uniforms is expected to reach the district education department only by the first week of July.
Khammam: It is going to be another month before students studying in government schools receive their uniforms.
There are 1,294 government schools in the district with as many as 1,02,000 students studying in different classes. Each student is given two uniforms.
Material for the uniforms is expected to reach the district education department only by the first week of July, after which it will be given for stitching.
Measurements of students from Class I and Class VIII are yet to be completed, as Class I students are new entrants and Class VIII students will join high school. Measurements of students from Class II to Class X have been taken
Sources said, “There would be a month’s delay as it is difficult for tailors’ to fulfil the target.” However, officials claim that the uniforms will be distributed in the first week itself. In the previous year, students received their uniforms only in the last week of October. As a result, this year, officials decided to distribute uniforms before July 15.
Tailors’ were demanding Rs 75 as stitching charges for each uniform but officials convinced them to stitch each uniform for Rs 50.
Last year, officials received numerous complaints as the uniforms did not fit the students and uniforms were torn in protest. K. Vijay, a student leader said, “The government must give quality uniforms to students and not just for namesake.”
