IIT convocation today, 80 per cent got placements

Palakkad: The first convocation of graduates and PhD holders in the lone IIT in the state at Kanjikode in Palakkad will be held on Saturday afternoon.
DRDO chairman G. Satheesh Reddy will be the chief guest at the event.
Out of the 103 graduates, almost 80 per cent have got placements after the campus selection conducted by prominent Public Sector Units (PSUs) and well-known private firms, IIT officials here said.
“There are two students who got PhD and among the graduates more than 20 per cent chose to pursue higher studies. Some are planning to open startups,” IIT director P.B. Sunil Kumar said.
Indian Telephone Industries (ITI), Bangalore chose 15 graduates, he added. At present there are 180 seats in the IIT which was allotted `1,250 crore by the Centre last year.
“At present, in transit campus spread across 30 acres, the works are on using the Central government funds. Another campus is functioning by renting out facilities of a private institution,” said K.M. Unni, adviser for IIT Palakkad said.
