Kerala electricity minister assures power in 4 days
2.5 million connections lost during floods.
Kochi: The power connections snapped due to the floods in the state would be restored in the next four days, said electricity minister M.M. Mani.
Speaking to reporters at Thiruvananthapuram Mr. Mani said 2.5 million electricity connections have been lost in the flood affected districts in the state. The staff members are trying to restore the connectivity by working day and night, he said.
The Kerala State Ele-ctricity Board Ltd (KSEBL) has been given priority for restoring connections with the help and cooperation of electricity board officials from Tamil Nadu, Karn-ataka and Andhra Pradesh and retired staff of KSEBL.
The minister said according to the initial estimates KSEBL has suffered a loss of '400 cr due to the floods. He said the dams were opened with accurate planning and there was nothing wrong in the decision.
Mr. Mani said the connections will be restored after rectifying the technical faults and lapses in the connectivity.
The functioning of the electricity board has received flaks from many quarters in the flood ravaged areas. In Idukki, the home district of the electricity minister, many areas are still without electricity.
The failure of the Board to provide proper information on the restoration of power in areas hit by the calamity is one of the major grouses of the affected people.
