Tamil Nadu receives best southwest monsoon rain in years
It was also said that coastal areas between Adirampattinam and Chennai would be benefitting from interior storms moving towards the coast.
Chennai: While occasional showers drenched the state capital on Tuesday, interior Tamil Nadu regions received moderate rainfall, which can be termed as one of the best in the southwest monsoon seasons.
Late night and evening storms, which were witnessed in the interior regions of Tamil Nadu would continue for the next two days, the Regional Meteorological center said. A weather department official said the trough is running from coastal Andhra Pradesh to South Tamil Nadu, across the coastal Tamil Nadu. The east-west shear zone in Tamil Nadu, which caused instability, is also the reason for the rainfall in the state, the official added.
It was a significant rainfall in the delta districts, as Aduthurai Agro in Thanjavur district recorded 72 mm by 5:30 by Tuesday morning including 51 mm in two hours between 8:30 and 10:30 pm on Monday, posted K Srikanth in his blog, adding that it could be possibly one of the best Southwest Monsoons in recent times for Delta districts.
“Ariyalur and Perambalur districts continued to get good rains for the second straight day along with Delta districts,” he added.
