CBSE plans to hold vocational exams in second half of February
In a press release on Wednesday, the board said the decision was taken in pursuance of Delhi Court's order.
Chennai: To release the board exam results and revaluation results in time for college admissions, the Central Board of Secondary Education has announced that the vocational exams for classes 10 and 12 would be held in the second half of February.
However, the exams for core subjects including languages, maths, physics, chemistry, geography, business studies and accountancy, economics to be held in March.
In a press release on Wednesday, the board said the decision was taken in pursuance of Delhi Court’s order.
The court had directed the Delhi University and CBSE to ensure that the class 12 results and re-evaluation results are taken into account whilst determining the cut-off date for admission to the colleges of the University of Delhi.
“In this backdrop, after due consultations, CBSE has decided that exams for all skill education (vocational) subjects shall be held in the latter half of February. There are 40 vocational subjects being offered in class 12 and 15 subjects in class 10,” the release said.
It also said the exams for subjects where fewer than 500 are studying such as typography and computer applications will also be held along with February exams as these exams have larger practical component and shorter theory papers.
The officials hoped that the slight advancement of the board exams schedule will facilitate earlier declaration of main results and re-evaluation results as compared to earlier years.
“Presently, the examination schedule of CBSE begins in March and extends to seven weeks or more, to be able to accommodate all possible combination of subjects. Due to this, results go on to the fourth week of May and the re-evaluation process gets completed in July end. The admissions in Delhi University and other universities almost completed by this time,” CBSE said.
It further said the subjects for which exams will be held in February and March will be notified on the CBSE website next week.
