Telangana: Largest thundercloud forms from sea to city

Hyderabad: The rumbling sound of the moving cumulonimbus clouds was heard during the early hours of Wednesday and it continued throughout the day in the city.

Wednesday saw one of the largest thundercloud covers, starting from the gigantic West Bengal, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema to Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Conditions are becoming favourable for the commencement of withdrawal of the southwest monsoons from parts of Western Rajasthan during the next 3 to 4 days.
Chief Meteorologist of Skymet (an independent weather observatory), Mahesh Palawat explained, “The rainfall on Wednesday was the result of thunderclouds which have developed over Khammam, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad in Telangana. The heavy spell was registered in coastal AP and Rayalaseema. The forecast of heavy rainfall associated with thunder and lightning is likely to continue for the next 48 hours. The rain intensity in Telangana will gradually decrease towards September end, however, will persist over Coastal AP.”
With regard to the rumbling sound, the meteorologist explained, “Thunder clouds moving at a distance of 4-5 km above the earth’s surface will produce a peal of light thunder. The intensity in sound and lightning is higher with towering clouds, formed between 8-10 km.”
