Karimnagar: Cyclone Gulab caused moderate to heavy rains in several regions, leading to heavy inflow of water into major reservoirs here in erstwhile Karimnagar district on Monday.

The storage level in Sri Raja Rajeshwara Reservoir (Mid Manair Dam-MMD) in the Rajanna Sircilla district was at 24.472tmc against its full capacity of 27.55tmc. The inflow was 22,115 cusecs and outflow 65,172 cusecs. Officials lifted 18 gates and released the water downstream.

The water storage level in the Lower Manair Dam (LMD) in Karimnagar district was 23.558tmc against its full capacity of 24.034tmc. The inflow from the upstream was of 33,565 cusecs. Officials released around 39,857 cusecs to the downstream by lifting 12 gates.

In Peddapalli district, all the barrages under the KLIS project recorded heavy inflows due to the rain since the afternoon due to the Gulab effect.

Inflow of around 6,38,040 cusecs was recorded at Lakshmi barrage with the discharging of around 6,38,040 cusecs downstream by opening 79 gates of the barrage. The water storage in the Lakshmi Barrage was at 3.46tmc against its full capacity of 16.17tmc.

At Saraswathi barrage, the reservoir was filled with heavy inflows of about 4,58,000 cusecs. Officials are releasing about 4,58,000 cusecs to the downstream by lifting 59 gates of the barrage. The water storage in Saraswathi barrage was at 0.47tmc against its full capacity of 10.87tmc.

Due to continuous rainfall in the catchment areas of Sripada Yellampalli project since the afternoon, the water levels were increasing in the reservoir. The storage level in the Sripada Yellampalli reservoir was at 18.119tm against its full capacity of 20.175tmc. The inflow was about 33,3,527 cusecs. Meanwhile, the administrations of four districts sounded a red alert on Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jagtial and Rajanna Sircilla districts based on IMD weather predictions. Collectors of these districts asked officials to be available round-the-clock for emergency services and to prevent incidents in view of heavy rain.

They warned fishermen and shepherds against venturing out and entering into water bodies for fishing and grazing of cattle, and also alerted the people living in villages in the catchment and low- lying areas.
