6 held for attack on BJP activist in Thrissur
The arrested are CPM, DYFI activists.
Thrissur: Giving clear messages of a possible clampdown on political violence in the district, the police on Wednesday arrested six workers belonging to the CPM and its youth wing DYFI for the attack on BJP activist Kalapuraikal Vishnuprasad at Idayanchira near Pavaratty on October 21.
A police team lead by Guruvayur circle inspector G. Balakrishnan and Pavaratty sub-inspector S. Arun took Saneesh, 25, of Padoor, Sharif, 27, of Chavakkad, Mujeeb Rahim, 35, of Chavakkad tsunami colony, Shaijeer, 26, of Padoor, Prabhath, 33, of Thirunelloor and Nazeer, 32, of Chavakkad into custody on Tuesday night from the Guruvayur railway station premises. Four other accused are still at large.
The BJP had alleged that the CPM was behind the attack in which Vishnuprasad sustained injuries on head, hand and legs. Vishnuprasad’s brother Vijay Sankar was one of the accused in the murder of Pavaratty Shihabudheen, a CPIM activist, last year.
The police said the attackers hit Vishnuprasad’s bike with a car before hacking him. “The attackers chased him when he tried to escape to a nearby house and again hacked him in front of the house,” Pavaratty police said. “Vishnuprasad then ran away and got on to an autorickshaw and its driver helped him escape.”
