CBI to record statements of DySP MK Ganapathi family today

Bengaluru: The Special Crimes Branch of the CBI (Chennai Zone), which has registered an FIR in connection with the suicide of DySP M.K. Ganapathi, is expected to start the investigation on Friday. A CBI team has reportedly left for Chennai and would be in Madikeri by Friday morning, to record the statements of Mr Ganapathi’s family members.
Before the CBI registered the FIR at 3 pm, a team of officials of the CID, that investigated the case first and filed a ‘B’ report giving a clean chit to the accused trio - Minister K.J. George, senior IPS officers A.M. Prasad and Pranab Mohanty - met the CBI officials at their office in Chennai. They handed over all the files and documents related to the case. Within hours after that, the CBI sleuths registered an FIR booking all the three accused on charges of abetment of suicide and common intention.
G. Kalaimani, the Additional Superintendent of Police of the CBI, is the Investigation Officer in the case. Besides recording the statement of Mr Ganapathi’s family members, the CBI team will question Mr George and the two IPS officers as part of the probe.
Following the CBI registering an FIR, Mr Ganapathi’s sister Sabita said, “We knocked on the doors of the Supreme Court as we did not get justice in the High Court. It was a question for us on why he claimed his life. We are confident that the CBI will unearth the reasons that drove my brother to commit suicide.”
