Centre condemns attack on Swiss couple
Sources said that all the three arrested accused persons are minors.
New Delhi/Lucknow: In the wake of a horrific attack on a Swiss couple Quentin Jeremy Clerc, 24, and his girlfriend Marie Droz, 24, at Fatehpur Sikri near Agra in UP, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj said she has asked for a report from the UP Government, adding that her ministry’s officers had visited the couple in Hospital and that the Union Government was monitoring their medical condition. The Agra police swung into action and ADG crime Chandra Prakash told reporters in Lucknow on Thursday that three persons had been arrested and the police was on the lookout for the remaining accused. Sources said that all the three arrested accused persons are minors.
Ms Swaraj tweeted, “I have asked for a report from the State Government. Our joint secretary S. Bhattacharjee and Indian Ambassador designate to Switzerland C.B. George met Swiss nationals Quentin Jeremy Clerc and Ms Marie Droz in hospital. They spoke to the concerned doctors who told them that while Ms Droz has been discharged, Mr Clerc is improving. We are monitoring his progress in the hospital.”
A concerned Swiss Embassy in New Delhi too issued a brief statement, confirming the attack and saying it was providing support to the couple. Meanwhile, Union minister of State for tourism K.J. Alphons said — in a letter to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath — that such incidents could have a impact on the image of the country. Union culture minister Mahesh Sharma, who had held the tourism portfolio, also said the incident was a matter of shame for the country.
