'Kerala Organic Farmers' promotes vegetable cultivation at schools
Experts will also give lessons on bio-farming, animal husbandry and bio-culinary lessons to students.
Kozhikode: The Kerala Organic Farmers' Movement will promote vegetable cultivation in 100 schools of the district to inculcate bio-farming culture among students.
Noted environmental activist Prof T Sobeendran inaugurated the programme at Ramakrishna Mission School, here on Friday, distributing vegetable seeds to students.
Addressing the students Mr Sobeendran said that the project would be a success only when the seeds of bio-farming sowed not in the soil but deep in the minds of students.
"I wish the promoters would soon succeed in conquoring the minds of students with messages of greenery", he added.
The project also envisages ensuring effective guidance to students, supervising the cultivation and providing free seeds are also part of the project. Experts will also give lessons on bio-farming, animal husbandry and bio-culinary lessons to students.
Though aimed at catering to 100 schools, so far only 20 schools have joined in the initiative. Headmistress K Smitha presided over the function. Volunteers of the project P.T. Sivad-asan, T.K. Jayaprakash, Vadayakkandi Naraya-nan and T.P. Ushakumari among others spoke.
