KRISHNAGIRI: “The schools beyond teaching should work to unite broken families because the children having problem at home are at an increased risk of negative outcomes,” Dr Venkata Rayudu Venigala told reporters.

On Thursday, the Gurukulam global residential school in Denkannikottai of Krishnagiri district organised a special day for the grandparents of their students. As many as 50 couples selected by the school committee have participated in the event.

Venkata Rayudu Venigala, CEO for the school, while speaking on the occasion, said that the schools should conduct a study and find out whether the children has any issues at his or her home if they are not doing well in studies.

“Children with family issues will have behavioural problem, not performing well in studies, often getting illness, leaving school or home and may also get addicted to drugs,” Venkata Rayudu said.

The CEO, commenting on the grandparents' day celebrated in his school,  said, “our teachers conducted a study to know why few children are not doing well in studies. It was found that those children have problems at home.”

He added, “the major problem for them was because of their parents were not in good terms or not living together. Such children experience physical abuses which develop fear syndrome in them”

With the grandparents day, the school invited the elders in the family to have a talk with them and tried to settle the issues. The elders were explained how the problem affects their grandchildren.

The grandparents have been asked to make efforts for reuniting the parents of their grandchildren living separately. Others not having good terms were asked to attend the counseling session arranged by the school management.

The school teachers have been effectively combining basic psychological tips and a practical approach to know the problems of kids.
