Army men asked to remove barricades from civil area

Hyderabad: Ms U.K. Arora, a resident of Wellington Enclave, West Marred-pally, said that army jawans created a ruckus and did not allow her family to reach their home when they were returning from dinner one night. She said that some of the jawans spoke in a rude manner, ignoring the fact that they were addressing women.

Speaking about her experience, Ms Arora said that she was deeply saddened by it because three members of her family are army men. “I went for dinner with my family and returned at around 11.30 pm. The jawans did not allow our vehicle to pass. They asked us to show our passes, which is strange because no resident of the colony possesses one. The army establishment has not issued any passes,” she said.

Ms Arora wants the army barricades to be moved away from the civil area. She plans to raise the issue with the colony association.

Brigadier Manish Upadhyaya, the President of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board, was not available for comment.

Meanwhile, J. Ramakrishna, the Vice-President of the Board, said that the army had erected temporary barricades in the civil area. He agreed that they should be moved to the gate at the end of the civil area.

“We will write to the sub-area command and the head of the southern command, in Pune, about this issue. If army personnel spoke with a civilian in a rude manner, they have to apologise,” Mr Ramakrishna added.
