Venkaiah Naidu to attend Andhra University alumni meet
The meeting will kick start with a 3k walkathon to be flagged off by the Vice President at 6 am on December 9.
Visakhapatnam: Being an alumnus of Andhra University, it is a matter of pride for the Vice-President of India, to be a part of the Alumni meet being held at AU Convention Centre on December 9. Founded in 1926, the varsity has churned out graduates who have become eminent figures in various spheres. The meet aims at making the varsity the best in the world with the help of the alumni.
Discussing the itinerary the schedule of the meet to media persons here, AP HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said as many as 81,000 alumni have registered themselves for the meeting and the institution has targeted at least one lakh registrations. The meet will kick start with a 3k walkathon to be flagged off by the VP at 6 am on December 9. It will proceed from RK Beach and end at YMCA. Various cultural programmes are planned for the day.
The alumni will later move to their respective departments for a get together at 10 am. A meeting with the faculty, students and co-alumni will be conducted and at 2.30 pm, a campus round activity will be held, for which 20 buses will be arranged to pick up the alumni and drop them. The main programme will be held at AU Convention Centre at 5 pm.
The Vice-President along with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate new facilities, SIEMENS Centre of Excellence, GMR Smart Complex in Science and Technology Bhavan and lay the foundation for a canteen to be built with donations from the alumni. Connecting the students and preparing a database was a challenging task but social networking websites, helped spread the message. There are 64 departments on the varsity and all have been asked to open a Whatsapp group to add alumni and bring the alumni together.
