Salem: 2 killed, 1 hurt as courier van rams into truck
21-year-old Saravanan, a friend of the deceased Santhosh Kumar, who was also travelling by the courier van, suffered critical injuries.
Salem: In a horrific mishap on the Salem-Madurai national highway near Paramathi in Namakkal in the early hours of Monday, two persons including a driver were killed and another person critically injured when a courier parcel van rammed into a stationary truck on the NH.
Police said that the driver of the truck carrying rice bags from Karnataka to Madurai, had parked on roadside near Maravpalayam and had dozed off in the driver’s cabin.
Police said that around 6 am, a courier parcel van proceeding from Salem to Karur suddenly lost control and crashed into the stationary truck from the rear.
Under the impact, the driver of the courier van, K Ramalingam, 62, hailing from Periyakulathupalayam in Karur and his assistant, Santhosh Kumar, 21, were crushed to death inside the vehicle at the accident spot itself.
Another person, 21-year-old Saravanan, a friend of the deceased Santhosh Kumar, who was also travelling by the courier van, suffered critical injuries. Passersby first pulled out Sarvanan and rushed him to a private hospital in Namakkal.
On information, Paramathi police rushed to the spot, retrieved the two bodies and sent them to Namakkal government hospital for post-mortem. Further investigations are on.
