New Delhi: The Shiv Sena on Tuesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief would be invited for Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s oath taking ceremony as the Maharashtra Chief Minister.

BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis and NCP’s Ajit Pawar resigned on Tuesday after the Supreme Court asked them to prove their majority in the Maharashtra Assembly, making way for the Congress and the NCP to form government with Shiv Sena.

On Tuesday evening, the Sena-NCP-Congress leaders conducted a meeting where it was decided Thackeray would lead the alliance and the state government. Addressing the media, NCP leader Nawab Malik said, "Key leaders of the three parties will meet Governor to stake claim to form government in Maharashtra...the swearing-in ceremony will take place on December 1.” The date of the ceremony, however, was later changed to November 28.

The event will take place at Mumbai's iconic Shivaji Park, he said.

Sena MP Sanjay Raut was asked if PM Modi would be invited to the function to which he replied: "Yes we will invite everyone, we will even invite Amit Shah."

On November 23, the BJP, in a stunning move, had Devendra Fadnavis take oath of office at an unannounced ceremony in the Governor’s official residence. Senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar was sworn in as his deputy.
