Bengaluru: Unaided schools told to upload fee details
Fee structure including tuition fees, special development fees and other fees to be displayed on DPI website.
Bengaluru: The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has directed all private unaided educational institutions, including state and centrally-sponsored CBSE and ICSE in the state, to upload details of the fees collected from students for the current and the next academic year on the department website by December 31.
Commissioner of Public Instruction Dr K.G. Jagadeesh issued the order on Nov. 21 following directions from the High Court and a gazette notification by the state government.
All institutions should upload the details on sts.karnataka.gov.in and also bring it to the notice of the people through the “know my school module” on the DPI portal.
The schools should upload details of tuition fees, special development fees, term fees and other fees to be collected for students from class 1 to 12 for the next academic year. They should upload details of last year’s audit report, teaching resources and results of all public exams over the last three years.
The commissioner has passed the order as per the Karnataka Educational Institutions (Regulation of Certain Fees and Donations Rules) 1999 and the Karnataka Educational Institutions (Classification, Regulation and Prescription of Curricula). Under the rules, there is no provision for private unaided educational institutions to collect the term fees from students of LKG, UKG and from classes 1 to 5. However, schools can collect term fees from students of class 6 to 10 which should be limited to a maximum of 10 per cent of the tuition fees.
Private unaided institutions can increase tuition fees by up to 15 per cent every year, while the special development fee should be limited to a maximum of Rs 2,500.
The school authorities must upload details of fees collected from students for sports, extracurricular activities and vehicle facility fees to pick up and drop children, special subject teaching fees and other fees with valid reasons.
School authorities must provide details of availability of teaching and non-teaching staff, their monthly salaries, school maintenance charges, interest paid, rent of the building and other miscellaneous charges.
