Bengaluru: Hire a cycle, see heritage structures
Tourism Dept and Namma-Nimma Cycle Foundation will set up bicycle stations at 4 gates of Cubbon Park.
BENGALURU: Want to visit heritage structures in and around Cubbon Park, but worried about the long and tiring walk involved?
The Tourism Department in association with the Namma Nimma Cycle Foundation is planning to introduce ‘Bengaluru Cubbon Trails’ bicycle stations at four different gates of the city’s biggest lung space.
This will enable visitors easy and affordable access to heritage structures in and around the park.
There are over 30 such important structures around Cubbon Park, including the Venkatappa Art Gallery, Military Memorial, Seshadri Iyer Memorial Hall and Philately Museum.
Murali H.R., CEO of Namma Nimma Cycle Foundation, said, “Many people don’t even know that there are so many heritage structures in and around the park. A lot of them don’t like to walk so much and some don’t like to spend on autorickshaws and cabs as well. So, we came up with this idea of ‘Bengaluru Cubbon Trails’ which will help them move around at affordable prices.”
He said, “Bicycles will be given on rent. An application, ‘Namma Nimma Cycle’, which tells about heritage structures, will also be introduced soon.”
A tourism department official said, “It is important to know and teach our children about the history of the city. The state capital has a history of 480 years and people should know what happened in those years. The main idea behind the project is to make the city greener and environmental friendly.”
History and culture In a recent interview with Deccan Chronicle, Tourism Minister Priyank M. Kharge had stressed on the importance of conserving and reviving the history and culture of the city.
