Hyderabad: A PIL has been filed before the Telangana High Court to call for reports from the GHMC and  Metro Water  and Sewerage  Board  on the money they have spent to maintain roads and the steps  being taken for removal of water stagnation.

Mr G. Satya Naresh Kumar of  Motinagar, filed the PIL alleging that the situation in the city was bad because of the failure of the GHMC and the HMWS&SB in performing its statutory duties such as supplying safe drinking water and maintaining sanitation.

He said problems such as poor roads, failure in lifting the garbage and its disposal, water stagnation at the time of rains, regular contamination of  drinking water amounted to a  clear violation of Article 21 of the Constitution.

In support of his contentions, Mr Kumar submitted  several  illustrated reports published in the Speak Out pages of Deccan Chronicle.

In the petition, he said: the two civic authorities “are working  against the goals adopted by India under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Develop-ment Goals , New Urban Agenda resolution 71/256 of the United Nations General Assembly and various national and state level policies.”

He urged the court to direct the government and the civic authorities to create a high power monitoring committee to  supervise repair and maintenance of roads, the position of water supply, removal of garbage and all other measures in GHMC area. He also requested the court call for a detailed master plan for the roads.
