Hyderabad: The health department on Tuesday said the state has eight new Covid-19 cases, all of them from Hyderabad. The total stands at 59.

The daily bulletin issued by the office of the Director of Public Health appears not to take into consideration fresh cases being found in the districts. This includes five cases confirmed a day ago in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, or the one case at Peddapalli district on December 25.

There was also some confusion after a patient admitted at Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad passed away, and the hospital saying the deceased had tested positive for Covid. Hospital superintendent Dr B, Nagender said the patient's death was not due to Covid but from comorbidities he was suffering from.

In all, 1,333 tests were conducted against the 4,000 RTPCR tests target a day set by health minister Damodar Rajanarasimha.

Meanwhile, Rajanarasimha called on officials to strengthen primary health centres, and speed up testing of samples sent to Telangana Diagnostics laboratories.
