V-P Releases Special Postal Cover on Justice Konda Madhava Reddy
Hyderabad: Recalling the ideals advocated by late Justice Konda Madhava Reddy like service, justice and compassion, Vice-President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar said that the country’s legal landscape has been undergoing great affirmative changes in recent months. These will have a positive impact on its progress and on the welfare of one-sixth of humanity.
Dhankhar was speaking after releasing a special India Postal Cover commemorating the birth centenary of late Justice Konda Madhav Reddy, former Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh and Bombay High Courts and former governor of Maharashtra at AV College here on Wednesday.
He said that the uniqueness of Justice Reddy was that he never forgot his roots despite his luminary stature. His contemporaries and peers remember him as a soft-spoken, thoughtful, contemplative, reasonable and fair person with an innate sense of justice with his thorough knowledge of law. More importantly, he was open to the point of view of others.
"Madhava Reddy took inspiration from his predecessors and encouraged young lawyers to work to their potential. He was a contributor to several important judgments that shaped Indian history and discourse. I am inspired by his efforts to alleviate rural struggles through his judgements. He gave a voice to those who were presumed voiceless," the vice-president said.
Dhankhar stated that the judiciary, executive and legislature were performing commendably and together catalyzing India’s unprecedented rise.
The last decade saw the judicial system making significant strides, emphasizing digitalization through the e-courts project and the national judicial data grid, he said.
A few days back, three new criminal code bills received the assent of the President, including the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and the Bharatiya Sakshya Act. They have unshackled the Indian criminal justice system from the colonial legacy while keeping the focus on justice rather than on punishment. It is a revolutionary change that the Bhartiya Dand Sanhita has now become the Nyaya Sanhita.
Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, Telangana High Court Chief Justice Alok Aradhe, chief postmaster general, Hyderabad circle P.V.S. Reddy, and others like Justices B. Sudershan Reddy, M.S.K. Jaiswal, Koshy, Lakshman, Jeevan Reddy, Subash, and Sudesh Dhankhar, V. Rajagopal Reddy, Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, Prof. Ramchandra Reddy and Dhananjay Reddy graced the occasion.
