Chennai cop arrested in Tiruchy for keeping unlicensed guns
The police said they had two guns and 10 bullets.
CHENNAI/ TIRUCHY: A grade-1 cop from Chennai was arrested in Tiruchy on Saturday for possession of two unlicensed guns. On a tip off, the Organised Crime Intelligence Unit (OCIU) headed by Senthil Kumar visited two private lodges in Tiruchy and nabbed three people, of which two were from Chennai.
The police said they had two guns and 10 bullets. The trio was identified as Siva of Pudukottai, Nagaraj of Villivakkam and the grade-1 police attached to Sembium police station, Parameswaran (34), a resident of Nammalwarpet.
The arrested were later brought to Chennai for further interrogation on where they bought the guns from and what they were planning to do, police added.
The raids at the lodge were made as a follow-up on Thursday's incident where two men were arrested for smuggling five pistols and '4 lakh fake currency from Assam. The two, Pradeep (28) of Perambur and Kamal (27) of Thirumangalam were nabbed at Tiruvottriyur railway station on Friday on their way to Chennai on Guwahati-Trivandrum Express.
