Serilingampally MLA Arekapudi Gandhi, GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy and GHMC West zone commissioner Hari Chandana Dasari participate in the cyclothon at Gachibowli on Saturday.

Hyderabad: GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy sought to know from some 3,000-odd software professionals at Gachibowli stadium on Saturday how they appreciated the Swachh Survekshan survey. He was taken aback when 60 per cent of techies said that they have not heard about it. The Swachh Survekshan survey is dubbed as the world’s largest study on cleanliness.

The GHMC kicked off a cycle rally ‘cyclothon’ from Gachibowli stadium on Saturday in association with HYSEA and Synchrony Financial in order to inculcate competitive spirit and create awareness among IT employees on Swachh Sarvekshan. The municipal commissioner called upon the residents and locals to participate in the Swachh survey to make Hyderabad top in the list.

Mr Reddy said, “Last year, GHMC collected 3,500 tonnes of waste. This year, we will collect 4,500 tonnes. So Hyderabad is certainly going to get a lot cleaner now.” GHMC west zone commissioner Hari Chandana Dasari said, “We request people to call ‘1969’ or log on to the website to tell us if they think Hyderabad looks cleaner than before.”

The GHMC had topped the Swachh Survekshan rankings in 2017. However, the process of ranking changed this year with the evaluation now being based on the public feedback.

Meanwhile, GHMC is planning to organise a Swacch Kavitha Sammelan and hold sports competition from January 28 to February 9.
