Hyderabad: Moorthidevi award for professor Kalakaluri Enoch

Hyderabad: Noted Dalit voice, poet and academic Dr Kalakaluri Enoch has been named for the prestigious Moorthidevi award for 2015 by the Bharatiya Jnanpith Organisation.
The award selection board headed by Prof. Satyavrat Shastri met in Delhi on Friday and unanimously decided to confer the 29th Moorthidevi award for Dr Enoch for his literary work, Ananta Jeeva-nam. This is the first ti-me a Telugu writer has been selected for the award.
Ananta Jeevanam depicts the struggle of the weak, downtrodden and the common man in Rayalaseema to preserve the cultural and historical inheritance of the region during a devastating cyclone. Dr Enoch born on July 1, 1939, is a former vice-chancellor of SV University. He has been awarded the Padma Shri.
Prof. Enoch told this newspaper on Sunday, “I have spent almost 45 years in Anantapur district, though I am not native there. The district is known for acute drought. Ananta Jeevanam reflects the life and miseries of the people there.”
