Party ticket only to those who apply, says EVKS Elangovan
The leaders and cadres have objected to the idea of interviews being conducted in all districts by observers appointed by TNCC.
Chennai: Ticket will be given only to those who have applied through due process for contesting the Assembly elections, TNCC president, E.V.K.S. Elangovan, said on Saturday, in an obvious reference to rival factions, including that of former Union Finance minister P. Chidambaram, which have boycotted candidate selection.
He also said the only criterion for getting tickets was the candidates’ winning chances and whether they believe in the leadership of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi.
Speaking to reporters here, Elangovan said the interview for ticket seekers had been conducted successfully in all districts.
“Ticket will be given only to those people who have applied for it. Congress for the first time in Tamil Nadu invited applications from party men interested in contesting the elections and we would select candidates only from those who have applied,” he said, when asked about some senior leaders boycotting the interviews held in districts.
Elangovan was obviously referring to leaders and supporters of rival factions including that of Chidambaram taking objection to the interview process and boycotting the event in more than five districts.
