KOCHI: Even as the flyover construction is gaining momentum at Vyttila, district collector Muhammad Y Safirulla has recommended a few measures to ease traffic flow and facilitate construction works. Following his direction, more medians and other structures which block traffic are being demolished to minimize difficulties to commuters. The bus shelter where buses from Aluva side halt, will be demolished within two days. Similarly, bus stops at the junction will be relocated, since they hold up traffic.

During a visit to the construction site on Monday evening, Mr. Safirulla instructed that the service road at the Vyttila – Ponnurunny signal junction and the median and temporary barricade at the junction be demolished. The footpath near the traffic tower at the SA Road will also be removed. Damaged drains will be repaired and will be covered with new concrete slabs. It has also been instructed that the barricades, erected at the junction to ease vehicle flow, be removed.

Officials of the Motor Vehicle Department, Public Works Department, National Highways Authority of India and police, RTO Reji P Varghese, sub-collector Imba Sekhar, assistant commissioner of police (traffic) Abdul Salam were also with the collector. MVD officials have been asked to prevent inter-State buses from halting at the junction. Usually, such buses wait at the junction for a long time to get commuters. There are widespread complaints against the worsening traffic chaos after the commencement of flyover construction works. Even ambulances are getting stranded at the junction for a long time during peak hours.
