HYDERABAD: Telangana police would be organising a run coinciding with International Women’s Day at People’s Plaza Necklace Road on March 4. There would be three categories of the run — 10km, 5km and 2km. About 10,000 women are expected to participate in the event.

Director General of police M. Mahender Reddy said the run was to instil a sense of confidence among women. “We also aim to promote safety of women and children. Eminent personalities are expected to participate in the event,” he said.

Among those expected are badminton player P.V. Sindhu and ‘Arjun Reddy’ fame Vijay Devarakonda. People of any age and gender could be part of the run for a crime-free city, he said. Those interested could register online at www.events.com through SHE Teams’ official Facebook account.

On March 3, the participants could collect their T-shirts, bibs and 10K run timing chip at a special counter at People’s Plaza. Every participant who completed his or her run would be entitled to a specially designed medal.

The DGP said SHE Teams was working round the clock. The aim of these teams was to curb eve-teasing and harassment of women in public places.
