Trinity Lyceum School may lose NOC

KOLLAM: The director of public instruction (DPI), who accepted a report by Kollam deputy director of education (DDE) recommending the cancellation of NOC of Trinity Lyceum, would now forward it to the government. The DDE dismissed as unsatisfactory the management’s explanation on celebrating the comeback of teachers facing charges of driving a student to suicide.  “The DPI has drafted the recommendation to demand cancellation of NOC. He will submit it on Wednesday,” a source at the DPI told DC.

Tenth grader Gauri Neha jumped off the second floor the primary block of the school on October 20 and succumbed to her injuries in a Thiruvananthapuram hospital. The police charged Sindhu Paul and Crescence Navis for abetment of suicide under the IPC and torture under the Juvenile Justice Act. The teachers were given a warm welcome cutting a cake in the presence of the school principal after their suspension, which triggered outrage.

The DDE had served notice twice to the management seeking an explanation on this, and she felt its explanation was unsatisfactory. The police is also investigating the incident, based on a complaint from the girl’s father R. Prasannakumar. The parents had filed a petition with the Human Rights Commission stating the death of their daughter was not a suicide, but murder, and demanding a CBI inquiry.

The commission has sought an opinion from the home secretary on it. The parents feared sabotage attempts as the management had an influence on the government machinery including the police.  The commission member K. Mohan Kumar asked the government to reply within two weeks.
