Death, injuries at Jagan Mohan Reddy\'s election rally
A woman standing on the ground identified as Pilli Ramulamma, 50, suffered a severe head injury and died on the spot.
Rajahmundry, Anantapur: Two women were killed and 14 others sustained injuries when a portion of a parapet wall of a municipal building complex caved in at an election rally being addressed by YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy at Mandapeta in East Godavari on Wednesday.
In a similar incident, 30 persons were injured after the parapet wall of a masjid at Sapthagiri Circle gave way under the weight of people who had gathered to hear TD supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu.
A large number of people gathered at Kalavapuvvu Centre at Madapeta as Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy was scheduled to address the public meeting in the evening while some of them climbed the rooftops of houses and even trees to get a better view of their leader.
As he was about the address the gathering, a small portion of a parapet wall on a slabbed building collapsed as several people climbed on its top. while some of them fell to the ground, others were caught inside the debris.
A woman standing on the ground identified as Pilli Ramulamma, 50, suffered a severe head injury and died on the spot.
Another woman identified as Suramma, 65, also sustained grievous head injury and breathed her last while being shifted to a hospital.
