Eight new sunburn cases in Kozhikode
More than 20 cases reported in total.
Kozhikode: With the temperature soaring in an unprecedented manner, the district has reported more than 20 cases of sunstroke from several parts so far.
Government hospitals alone confirmed six cases, more than half of them being construction workers.
There were eight new cases reported on Wednesday, according to district medical officer Dr Jayasree.
The labour department has decided to deploy squads to conduct inspections on the construction sites as, in spite of a warning, builders force their labours to work during the peak time between 12 to 3 pm.
According to the officials, sunstrokes, sunburn and rashes were reported mainly from Vadakara and Thiruvambadi, and the victims got admitted to general hospitals in their regions. A few cases were in the city.
The DMO said those sustaining sunburns should take necessary treatment without delay.
The heatwave across the district is increasing day by day, resulting in extreme stress or exhaustion. It leads to heat strokes, which requires a medical emergency. Hence people have to be extra conscious while venturing out during peak temperature.
Due to this sudden spike in atmospheric temperature, people are in a vulnerable condition, and hence they need to drink a lot of water to keep them hydrated all the time.
They can take lime water, tender coconut water or rice gruel water with salt. Cotton clothes are preferable to wear. People with pets need to keep them away from the sun.
