SSLC pass percentage 96.59, 2 per cent less over last year

No moderation was given this year. Granting of moderation during the last year had invited severe criticism.

Thiruvananthapuram: Of the 473,803 students who appeared for the 2016 SSLC exams, 4,57,654 have been declared eligible for higher studies. The pass percent is 96.59, around two percent lower compared to the previous years pass percent of 98.57.

Unlike previous years, no moderation was given during this year in order to ensure the quality of the exam. Moreover, granting of moderation during the last year had invited severe criticisms.

While 22,879 candidates secured A+ grade for all subjects, 49,081 students secured A grade or above for all subjects and 86,988 secured B +grade or above for all subjects. All students from 1,147 schools were eligible for higher studies, of which 317 were government schools, 522 aided and 308 unaided. The highest number of A+ grade for all subjects were secured by Malappuram district.

Mr Mohanty said that a slight decline in pass percentage was due to the examination board’s decision not to give moderation. Among the revenue districts, Pathanamt-hitta secured the highest pass percent of 99.03 and among the education districts Muvattupuzha secured the highest pass percent of 99.43. Lowest pass percent was in Wayand, 92.3.

All the 533 students who appeared from nine centres in Gulf countries secured eligibility for higher studies. Of the 813 who appeared from centres in Laksh-adweep, 650 secured eligibility for higher studies. In the private stream, of the 446 students who appeared in the old scheme, 259 became eligible for higher studies and 1,223 of the 2,123 who appeared in the new scheme became legible for higher studies. Of the 3,516 students who appeared for Technical High School Leaving Certificate (THSLC) examination, 3,474 were eligible for higher studies.

Seventeen of the 20 students who appeared in THSLC (hearing-impaired) category and 77 of the 80 who appeared under the art high school category also qualified for higher studies. The DPI said the SSLC certificates would be distributed through schools by fourth week of May. Applications for revaluation and scrutiny could be submitted online from April 29 till May 4.
