COIMBATORE: Ignoring the demands of Tamil Nadu farmers, Kerala has begun to construct a third check dam across the Bhavani river to stop even the minimal amount of water entering Tamil Nadu.

Kerala planned to construct seven check dams including at Attappadi, Thekkuvattai, Padavayal, Savadiyoor, Manjukandy, Koodapattu and Ranganathapuram across Bhavani river before the formation of the Cauvery Management Board (CMB), as the river would then under the board.

However, despite various protests by Tamil Nadu farmers, two check dams have already been constructed at Thekkuvattai and Manjukandy last year, leaving Coimbatore, Tirupur, Mettupalayam and Erode farmers in the shadow of a possible drought.
