Gunda Prakash Rao is Mayor of Warangal
He previously held the post of board of director for Kakatiya Urban Development Authority, and AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Limited.
Warangal: Gunda Prakash Rao was elected unanimously as the mayor of Warangal. During a specially convened council meeting on Saturday, Mr Rao was the lone contender for the mayor post after being proposed by Vaddiraj Ganesh. All the corporators supported Mr Rao. With no other contender, returning officer Prashanth J. Patil announced Mr Rao as the new Mayor.
Prior to the election, TRS leaders had held a meeting in which minister for panchayat raj Errabelli Dayakar Rao disclosed the party leadership’s decision to elect the four-time corporator as Mayor unanimously .
The post of the mayor has been vacant since December 2018 after the resignation of Nannapuneni Narender, who was elected the MLA from Warangal East. The position has a tenure of a little under two years left.
Mr Rao has held various posts when he was with the Congress. He first became councillor in 1981 and again in 1986. He was elected as corporator in 1995 and his current term commenced in 2016. He previously held the post of board of director for Kakatiya Urban Development Authority, and AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Limited.
After taking oath as Mayor, Mr Rao said, “I will strive to speed up development work ongoing in Greater Warangal. I will not disappoint the Chief Minister who gave me this opportunity. I am thankful to all who supported me. Together, we will contribute to the development of Warangal.”which is on the path to becoming one of the world-class cities,” he said.
