Hyderabad: Case on ex-Judge for dowry harassment
A case has been filed under IPC Sections 498(A), 406 and 323 and Sections 4 and 6 of the DP Act against the former judge.
Hyderabad: Former High Court judge Justice Nooty Rama Mohan Rao’s daughter-in-law has filed a dowry harassment complaint against his family at the all-women police station in Hyderabad on Saturday. The victim, Ms N. Sindhu Sharma, who reportedly sustained injuries due to domestic violence, has reported the former judge, his wife and her own husband as the prime accused in the complaint.
A case has been filed under IPC Sections 498(A), 406 and 323 and Sections 4 and 6 of the DP Act against the former judge, his wife Durga Jaya Laxmi, and his son Vasista Rao, husband of the victim.
The investigating officer told this newspaper, “The couple got married in 2012. According to the victim, who is a mother to two children, the family has been harassing her for dowry. The victim’s husband has been accusing her of alleged affairs outside their marriage, and her mother-in-law has been torturing her. No arrests have been made so far, but the investigation is underway. The trio will be called for questioning."
The victim complained of domestic violence, stating that she had sustained injuries on her chest, upper lip, shoulder and right arm.
The medico-legal case report issued by a hospital where the victim was treated said, "The patient alleged to have been beaten by husband and in-laws at her house in Journalist Colony, Jubilee Hills. The patient has sustained injuries on her upper lip, chest and back."
Justice Rama Mohan Rao was appointed additional judge to the High Court in 2004-2005 and promoted to the judgeship. Before retirement, he served as judge at the Chennai High Court. He retired from service in 2017.
