Hyderabad: Terming Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao a “great engineer,” irrigation minister T. Harish Rao on Friday said that the TS government would complete its irrigation projects as promised. He criticised the Opposition, especially the Congress, for trying to put hurdles in the construction of irrigation projects by provoking people not to part with their lands.

Mr Harish Rao, who is touring the entire state to oversee the progress of works on the irrigation projects, accused the Opposition of hatching a conspiracy to stall construction of the irrigation projects. “The government is providing fair compensation ranging from '5.5 lakh per acre to '6 lakh per acre. The Opposition is misleading the people and telling them not to part with their land for the projects. The people should ignore such statements,” Mr Harish Rao said.
“Young engineers will play a key role in the construction of the irrigation projects taken up by KCR,” Mr Harish Rao said, while handing over appointment orders to newly-appointed assistant engineers of Zone 5 and Zone 6 here.
He said that the government has begun the process of filling up 40,000 posts in various departments.

“We have taken up construction of irrigation projects on a war footing. Women engineers are doing a fabulous job, they are on par with men. We have recruited 242 assistant engineers in all and more will be hired in the future,” the minister said.
