Sharing of water: Telangana, AP seek time

The KRMB meeting was convened explicitly to decide on the sharing of water between the two states.

KRMB secretary R.K. Gupta informed the representatives that a meeting will be convened during the monsoon over water sharing.

Hyderabad: Representatives of both TS and AP on Friday informed the Krishna River Management Board that they will discuss the issue of continuing with the water sharing agreement reached last year or not with the governments of their respective states.

The KRMB meeting was convened explicitly to decide on the sharing of water between the two states ahead of the monsoon soon. Last year, the two governments had entered into an agreement for sharing 811 tmc ft of Krishna water allotted to undivided AP (512 tmc ft to AP and 299 tmc ft to TS). However, the agreement’s validity was limited to only one year.

The Board meeting also thanked the retiring Chairman S.A. Nathan and passed a resolution praising his services. KRMB secretary R.K. Gupta informed the representatives that a meeting will be convened during the monsoon over water sharing and hoped that by that time, they would take a decision.
