Hyderabad: The state government is all set for transfer GHMC employees to locations outside the city for the first time in its history. Admitting a few months ago that high levels of corruption existed in the GHMC, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said the government was looking at ways to change the laws to make it possible to transfer employees from the GHMC to other positions in the state so that they don’t “settle” into comfort zones and indulge in graft.

To enable this, the government has enacted a law and finalised the ‘Telangana Common Municipal and Urban Development Accounts Subordinate Service Rules, 2017’. Officials in the CMO said that once Mr Rao accepts the rules, the government will issue notification to start the transfers.

The government can also transfer employees working in urban development authorities such as the Huda. Under the service rules, employees working in the urban local bodies have been grouped into categories that will determine which zone they are transferred into. At present GHMC staff are transferable within its circles.
