The Commissioner ordered the ACPs of Balanagar and Bahadurpura to submit a detailed inquiry report of both the incidents.

ALAPPUZHA: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) has ordered Kerala Land Development Corporation (KLDC) to protect  islands in Kainakary paddy polders by constructing pitching. The order comes after a complaint registered by two Kainakari residents K.P. Jemini and Jainimol. As per the complaint, water from Uthimada, Punathuram, Paruthivalau paddy polders keeps seeping into the places like Plassery, Pattalam, Ambalam, Uralassery, Thattassery and Kuttikattuparambu.

The continuing intrusion of water poses high risk of epidemics among as many as 60 residents in the area. In reply to KSHRC, the Kainakary panchayat informed that the local body was financially unable to take up the project. Meanwhile, the panchayat authorities replied that some part of Pattalam and Plassery islands had been protected with pitching constructed under the Kuttanad  package.

KLDC has also filed an affidavit the commission that if the government gives permission they would be able to take up the project. On the basis of the report filed by KLDC, the commission asked the managing director of KLDC that the project should be executed along with Minor irrigation and irrigation departments.
