Thiruvananthapuram: Remya Haridas, 32, the ‘singing sensation’ who has been elected from Alathur, says that she has been entrusted with a huge responsibility by the public and that she would meet their expectations. “I will try to perform effectively as a people’s representative,” she told reporters at the Press Club here on Monday.

Asked about the controversy triggered by LDF convener A. Vijayaragh-avan’s comment against her during the campaign, Remya said, “as the convener of the front, he shouldn’t have made such comments, political or non-political. The words he used were derogatory and unacceptable. The case is now in the court and the future course of action will be decided after talks with the UDF leadership,” she said.

She thanked the people of Alathur for the support they gave her in the light of the recent issues.

Ramya, a good singer, said that music had enabled her to connect easily with the public. She also sang a couple of lines for the reporters.
