Qualification of MPs diverse and mixed

Hyderabad: The 17th Lok Sabha is a mix of professionals: teachers, artists, medical practitioners, lawyers, agriculturalists, businessmen and those involved in social service.

In comparison, the 16th Lok Sabha had 20 per cent MPs who had studied till Class XII.
Since 1996, at least 75 per cent of representatives of each Lok Sabha has been graduates.
“There is a sizable number of doctorates, post-graduates, graduates and higher secondary parliamentarians elected. Compared to the previous term, the number of graduates has increased and currently there are around 394 MPs who have at least graduate level education. So is the case with higher secondary level. Since 1996, at least 75 per cent of representatives of each Lok Sabha has been graduates,” said the analysis.
The House also has many young faces.
Over 12 per cent of MPs are below the age of 40. In the 16th Lok Sabha only eight per cent of MPs were below the age of 40.
Around 41 per cent of MPs are between 41-55 years of age, 42 per cent are between 56-70 and six per cent are above 70. A high percentage is in their mid 40s and 50s.
Some 397 MPs elected are from national parties — 303 from the BJP, 52 from the Congress, and 22 from the TMC.
Among the state parties the DMK (23) and YSRCP (22) won the most seats.
