Hyderabad: Make Internet safety a dinner table talk

Hyderabad: Parents have to make Internet safety a dinner table conversation, said Ms Sunita Mohanty, Google director for trust and safety. “Our experience says that parents tend to worry about the fact that their kids are very smart on the internet and they can’t cope. We teach parents very simple techniques on how to keep children safe on internet using the Cybermom initiative,” she said.
Internet education happens on two fronts – make safety a dinner table conversation and teach kids what details they shouldn’t be sharing like their location, the kinds of photographs to upload, privacy controls and how do they report to teachers, parents, counsellor.
Google’s first-ever four-week summer camp for about 100 kids concluded here on Wednesday. About 50 kids each from Hyderabad and Gurgaon were selected from 20,000 applicants.
