Hyderabad: Osmania general hospital still as dirty as ever
Doctors and supervisors are having a tough time manning the staff as they are not able to cope with the workload, sources said.
Hyderabad: Sanitation at the Osmania General Hospital has not improved despite the appointment of a new contractor, GJR Services, for cleaning of the premises. Doctors, paramedical staff and supervisors are having a tough time manning the staff as they are not able to cope with the workload, sources said.
A senior health officer at the hospital said, “There is too much of muck and filth which has been left around by the old contractor, Abdul Hasan of Bombay Services. To add to this is the daily waste collection which has to be done from all the three main buildings and that is not helping at all.”
The heads of department of medical and surgical wings want to set a standard so that no issues are raised later. Dr Nagendra, president of the Telangana Doctors Association at the hospital said, “The old contractor would not listen to the heads of department and working with him was very difficult. We want the new contractor to follow the rules and regulations as defined so that there are no issues later.”
Asked about the complaints, Mr Jaipal Reddy, owner of GJR Services. said, “My staff has hospital experience as we are also working at Gandhi Hospital. But the Osmania Hospital is a huge place and there are too many entry points. Who is dirtying the place is not known.”
The administration is keen to get the muck and filth cleared regularly as otherwise it becomes a breeding ground for dogs and cats within the premises.
However, a visit to the hospital on Wedneday showed paan juice-stained corridors, water on the floor and dust bins overflowing. Even walls opposite beds were stained by paan juice.
