Hyderabad: :Dr G. Satheesh Reddy took charge as the 13th Chairman of DRDO on Monday, marking the Pearl anniversary (30 years) of Research Centre Imarat (RCI) laboratory’s existence, where Mr Reddy had joined as a young scientist and was nurtured by the late Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
Reddy has spent over three decades at the Missiles Complex and has become the 4th person from RCI after Dr Kalam, Dr Vijay Kumar Saraswat and Dr Avinash Chander to head DRDO.
“I am honoured by the responsibility bestowed upon me. DRDO will put in efforts to strengthen the defence capabilities of our nation,” Mr Reddy said.
The RCI, is a laboratory of DRDO under the missile complex, established in Hyderabad.
It was the brainchild of late Dr Kalam, who conceived and steered RCI as a generator of critical missile technologies which are essentially needed. Ever since its inception, RCI has been nurtured to pursue R&D in technologies which ultimately resulted in the development of not just missiles, but many other hi-tech weapon systems and platforms.
“Dr G. Satheesh Reddy has served RCI for three decades and today we are not just celebrating 30 years of existence, but are also proud to see that Dr Reddy went on to become the Chairman, said a scientist.
There are 52 laboratories under DRDO and 13 scientists across this establishment have gone ahead and become Chairman of DRDO.
