NAMAKKAL: In a tragic incident, the DMK’s Namakkal north district medical wing organiser and an ENT doctor by profession, Dr K Anand, committed suicide by shooting himself at his residence in Sengapalli near Paramathi Velur in the district on Tuesday afternoon.
The 50-year-old doctor was attending to patients at his clinic till 2 pm and then went home only to pull the trigger on himself, after informing his wife, 45-year-old Kalaichelvi, a college professor who was away in Coimbatore today, that he was “committing suicide”. The couple have 17-year-old daughter, police said.
A numbed Kalaichelvi on hearing his telephonic message, asked one of her relatives living nearby to rush to her house, but when her kin reached there, Dr Anand was already in a pool of blood having shot himself on his right cheek with a licensed SBBL gun he had in his possession, police said.
Dr Anand’s body was sent to Namakkal GH for post-mortem, even as police are making enquiries to figure out what could have led to the doctor’s suicide.
